    • 5

Determine the type of hinge you want for your door. Typically, your storm door should hinge on the same side as your front or back door. If the existing door hardware prevents anything from being placed on that side of the frame, change the hinge to the other side.

Place the hinge rail on the left side of the door and move it up until it is flush with the top of the door frame.

    • 7

    • 8

Set the storm door onto two sawhorses with the interior side face up. With a drill, remove the screw on the door located second from the top of the left edge of the door.

    • 11

Place the rail extender onto the bottom of the hinge rail.

    • 12

Set the door onto the left door frame using the screw you placed in the frame as a guide. Hold the hinge rail tightly against the door frame. Tighten this screw completely.

    • 13

Drill a pilot hole at the bottom hole of the hinge rail on the inner side of the door. Secure the rail into place with an 8 inch-by 1-inch screw.

    • 14

Move the rail extender down until it is flush with the bottom of the door frame.

    • 15

Drill pilot holes in the spaces indicated through the remaining holes on the inner side of the hinge rail. Secure in place with an 8 inch-by-1 inch screw at all of the pilot holes.

    • 16

Close the door and have a helper hold the door tight against the frame. Drill a pilot hole at all of the holes on the outer side of the door hinge rail. Secure into place with an 8 inch-by-1 inch screw through all of the pilot holes.

    • 17

Cut a piece of weather stripping with a utility knife to fit the space between the weather stripping on the hinge rail and the bottom of the door frame. Remove backing paper from the weather strip and press into place.

    • 18

Fit the drip cap on the top of the door frame. Drill pilot holes ant the indicated holes and secure with an 8 inch-by-1 inch screw in each hole. Use caulk and a caulk gun to run a bead of caulk along the edges of the drip cap.
