Ask someone to assist you in removing your Jeld-Wen patio door. You can attempt to do this on your own, but it will be far more difficult to accomplish.
Open your Jeld-Wen patio door as wide as possible and place a 2-by-4 piece of lumber under the door to support it while you unfasten the hinges. Slide wood shims between the 2-by-4 and the bottom of the patio door, if necessary, to close up any gaps.
Fit more wood shims between the edge of the patio door and the wall where the hinges are attached to prevent the patio door from swinging.
Unfasten the screws that secure the hinges to the wall while your assistant steadies the patio door.
Pull the loosened screws away from the hinges and set them aside. Insert the blade of a flat head screwdriver between the hinges and the wall then pry the hinge loose.
Grasp one side of the door while your assistant grasps the other side and pull it away from the opening. You can now fit and hang a replacement patio door into the rough opening.
