Instructions

    • 1

Measure the rough opening of the entryway, recording the height and width. Purchase a wood door that fits the rough opening.

    • 2

Place the wood door against one side of the entryway, with the hinges on the door facing the entryway frame.

    • 3

Lift the door off the floor with the help of an assistant and stack and slide several wood shims under the door until it high enough off the ground to swing close and fits under the top of the entryway. The door should be opened perpendicular to the entryway.

    • 4

Position the hinges against the side of the entryway, making them sit flush over the side of the entryway.

    • 5

Insert a marker tip into each hole in the hinges to mark the location where the mounting screws will be fastened, then swing the hinges back to the door, closing them against the side of the wood door.

    • 6

Drill pilot holes into the entryway through the marks you made. Insert anchors into the pilot holes and tap-in flush with the entryway using a rubber mallet.

    • 7

Swing the hinges back against the entryway, aligning the holes in the door hinges with the pilot holes in the entryway. Secure the hinges to the entryway with a screw gun.

    • 8

Carefully remove the shims from under the wood door and swing the door open and shut to ensure it closes properly.
