Open the garage door and back your vehicle or vehicles out of the garage. Specific models of the Liftmaster garage door opener will allow you to install two assists at one time, for opening both doors of a two-car garage.
Position the device at a convenient location on the ceiling. Use a pencil or pen to mark the spot where you want to insert the screw to fasten the device to the ceiling and drill a hole at that spot.
Press the provided plastic anchor firmly into the hole. Line up the mounting hole of the parking assist with the anchor. insert the included screw into the mounting hole and tighten the screw with the screwdriver so that the device is firmly affixed to the ceiling. (Repeat these steps if you are installing two assists.)
Depress the black and white tabs of the garage door opener terminal box and take the white and white/black safety sensor wires out of their terminals. Skip to Step 6 if you are installing only one garage assist.
Separate the white and white-black wires (sides of the two-strand electrical cable) attached to the assist device. Cut six inches of wire from the end of the parking assist wire and strip 7/16-inch of insulation from each side of this length of wire for use as a connecting wire if you are installing two assists. Skip to Step 7.
Separate the white and white-black wires (sides of the two-strand electrical cable) attached to the assist device and strip 7/16-inch of insulation off each wire if you are installing a single assist. Skip to step 8.
Separate the white and white-black wires of the parking assist and strip 7/16-inch of insulation from each wire if you are installing two assists. Twist all like-colored wires together -- the sensor wire, the connector wire and the parking-assist wire. Insert the white twisted wires into the white coded quick-connect terminal of the garage door opener wiring box and the black-white twisted wires into the gray quick-connect terminal.
Twist the white wire of the parking assist and the white wire of the safety sensor together, twist the respective black-white wires together for a single garage assist. Insert the twisted white wires into the white quick-connect hole of the garage door opener wire box, and the twisted white-black wires into the gray quick-connect hole.
Drive the vehicle into the garage and park it in your customary parking space. Open the front car doors to obstruct the path of the safety reversing sensors.
Use the swivel mount of the garage assist to direct the red laser beam that will emit from the device to a spot on the hood or dashboard that you can easily see. If you can, sit in the car and have someone else position the beam for you so that you can see where it will appear when you are entering the garage.
Allow the beam to turn off on its own after one minute, when it has been properly positioned. Repeat if you have installed a second parking assist for a second vehicle and garage door.
Repeat Steps 9 through 11 periodically to make sure the Liftmaster Laser Parking Garage Assist is giving you optimum performance and accuracy. You will also have to repeat Steps 9 through 11 if you change vehicles.
