Measure the dimensions of your existing door. Replace the door with a same-size door that is made of medium-density fiber or is fiber-filled. If you have trouble locating these types of doors, you can replace the door with a solid exterior door. All of these doors can help greatly reduce noise because they are far more dense than standard interior doors.
Turn off all of the lights in the room. Switch on the lights immediately outside the door. Go back inside the room and see where light is entering the room around the door frame. There are likely to be some gaps between the door and the door frame that you must seal. These gaps allow noise to enter and leave through the door. Seal the gaps with closed-cell foam tape.
Measure the width of the door frame. Attach a door sweep to the bottom of the door using a screwdriver or drill. Choose a door sweep with a rubber gasket on the bottom that forms a seal with the floor. The gasket should slide when the door is open, but there should be no gap between the floor and the gasket.
Cut a piece of 1-inch-thick acoustic mat or foam to the size of the door frame. Adhere the mat or foam to the door with double-sided foam tape. Cut out a small hole for the door handle and pull the material down over the sides of the handle.
