How to Remove Sliding Bypass Closet Doors From Their Track

Sliding bypass doors are often installed on closets in rooms that don't have enough space for a swinging closet door. Unlike bifold doors, which fold together to allow access to the closet, bypass doors slide past each other, typically along roller brackets in an overhead track. When closed, bypass doors overlap slightly. You can uninstall bypass doors by removing them from the track.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand inside the closet. Locate the roller at the top of the door panel. Slide the door so that the roller is positioned at an opening in the track, if necessary.

    • 2

Lift one of the bypass door panels, and tilt the top of the panel into the closet. This frees the roller and door from the track, so that you can remove the door.

    • 3

Lift and tilt the second bypass door panel inside the closet to remove it.
