How to Make a Bi-Fold Door Close From the Inside

Bi-fold doors normally open and close from outside of the closet or laundry room; however, they can be found as room dividers. If you have a bi-fold door installed in the doorway between two rooms, and you find yourself using one room more than the other, reverse the door so that you open and shut it from inside the more popular room. If you have two sets of bi-fold doors, simply take down and reverse the doors. However, with one bi-fold door, reverse the brackets and the door.

Instructions

      Slide the bi-fold door partially open. Lift up on the guide door, which is the door panel with the guide roller on top of it.

      Lift the pin on the bottom of the door out of the floor bracket, and move the door bottom out. Lower the top of the door, pulling the roller out of the overhead track. Set the door to the side.

      Measure the position of the bottom bracket, which is on the floor. Unscrew and remove the bottom bracket from the floor and the side-door casing, using a power drill.

      Transfer the measurements for the bottom bracket position to the other end of the door opening. Install the bottom bracket on this opposite end of the door opening, in the exact position. Use a power drill to screw the bracket into place.

      Measure the overhead track's position on the door casing, using a tape measure. Remove the track, using the power drill. Reinstall the track on the opposite end of the casing, by installing the screws with a power drill.

      Position the bi-fold door in the door opening, with the door front facing the opposite direction as before. Position the door so that the door pull faces inside the room.

      Hang the door. Lift the side of the door with the pin in its top, which is normally the right side, and insert the pin into the bracket inside the track. Press down on the roller on top of the guide-door panel, position the roller underneath the track and allow the roller to spring up into the track.

      Push the top of the door up into the track, and position the door bottom so that the bottom pin inserts into the bottom bracket.
