Insert the closet door into the door frame just as it will be when fully installed. Insert wooden shims under the bottom of the door to raise it up off of the floor. Insert more shims at the top of the door and on both sides until the closet door is perfectly centered and has the same amount of space on all sides.
Draw three marks on the side of the closet door where the hinge cutouts reside on the frame.
Pull out all of the shims and remove the closet doors from the frame. Turn the door on its side so the hinge marks face upward. Place a hinge on the center of each mark and trace around it using a pencil.
Place a cold chisel at the location of the hinge marks and tap the head with a hammer to chisel out a 1/4-inch-deep hole for each hinge.
Place a hinge in each of the door depressions and insert the provided screws using a power drill to secure them.
Place the door back into position but open it slightly and unfold the hinges. Ask an assistant to hold the door upright as you do this. Insert the shims back under it until the hinges rise to the proper location on the frame. Secure the hinges to the door frame using more screws and the power drill.
Look at the side of the closet door and insert the lock into the hole fully. Secure the provided screws in the top and bottom to hold it in place. Place the strike plate on the side of the door frame where the lock will hit when it closes. Insert the two screws in the strike plate using the power drill.
Install the door knob by sliding one half through the front knob hole and then aligning the rear knob onto the central shaft of the front knob. Insert the long screws using a screwdriver to secure the two knobs together.
Remove the wooden shims from the bottom of the door and close it to ensure that it swings freely.
