Instructions

    • 1

Measure the frame where you plan to install the French doors. Write down those measurements for use when you shop for unfinished doors.

    • 2

Visit a local lumber or home goods shop for unfinished doors. Novice builders should consider choosing a door with a pre-cut center rather than a solid door. While at the shop, you will also need to purchase mullions and glass panels. Mullions are wooden shells that support the glass panels and will be required for each side of the glass. When you purchase glass panels, be sure they match the dimensions of the door's pre-cut center.

    • 3

Lay the unfinished door flat on the ground to prepare for the mullion and window installation. Each mullion kit is different, so follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to install the mullion.

Clean the glass panels thoroughly prior to placing them on top of the mullion. Keep the glass panels in place by running a bead of rubberized glue along the surface of the mullion. Allow the glue to dry before you lay the door on its opposite side and install the mullion for the other side of the glass panel.
