How to Replace a Fixed Panel Pella Door

Pella sliding doors are composed of two panels -- a vent panel that slides on a track and a fixed panel. If the fixed panel on your Pella door has cracked glass or if the door is broken in any other way, you can manually remove the fixed panel door to replace it with a new part. To remove the fixed panel portion, you must first remove the entire vent panel from the tracks. A new fixed panel part can be ordered from the Pella manufacturer or purchased from an online retailer.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the vent panel of the door to the back of the tracks. Remove the screws on the edge of the vent panel cover using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 2

Lift and remove the cover. Insert the screwdriver into the vent hole, and turn the screwdriver counterclockwise. Remove the screws from the head stop located in front of both panels by the tracks.

    • 3

Lift and remove the head stop. Lift the door panel and pull it toward you. The panel should disengage from the tracks, and once the door panel is fully removed, set it aside.

    • 4

Cut along the edge of the fixed panel and door frame using a utility knife, making sure that enables you to access all the screws holding the door in place.

    • 5

Remove all the screws from the fixed panel. Remove the fixed panel door.

    • 6

Place the new fixed panel door back into the door frame, and reinsert all the screws into the fixed panel.

    • 7

Apply caulk to the area between the frame and fixed panel using a caulking gun. This will cover the screws.

    • 8

Slide the vent panel back onto the tracks, and place the head stop back on. Reinsert the screws to the head stop.

    • 9

Lower the tracks by inserting the flathead screwdriver back into the vent panel hole and turning it clockwise.

    • 10

Place the vent panel cover back on, and reinsert the screws into the cover. Slide the vent panel back into place.
