How to Replace a Bottom Seal on an Escon Door

Escon wooden doors are easy to install in your home, and parts of the door can also be replaced at any time. For example, if the bottom seal of the door, also called the threshold, becomes broken or cracked, then you can remove the entire part and replace it with a new one. Escon thresholds come in aluminum or solid oak, and they can be adjusted so that it lines up properly to help prevent drafts of air and light from entering below the door.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Escon door, then locate the threshold where the door seals when shut.

    • 2

Remove the two screws from the top of the threshold seal using a Phillips screwdriver, lift and remove it.

    • 3

Remove old silicone adhesive from the threshold, using a putty knife to scrape it off.

    • 4

Reapply exterior-grade silicone adhesive to the floor where the threshold rests by squeezing a thin line of the adhesive from the tube it comes in or by using a caulking gun. Silicone adhesive can be purchased from your local home improvement store.

    • 5

Place the new solid oak or aluminum threshold part onto the silicone adhesive, and press down onto the threshold. A new Escon threshold part can be ordered from the Escon manufacturer or from an online retailer.

Reinsert the two screws into the threshold, and close the door. You can readjust the height of the threshold by tightening or loosening the screws used to fasten it.
