Set the welded metal door frame within the doorway. Cut out any sections that need to be widened using a reciprocating saw. Sand any edges that are close to fitting with rough-grit sandpaper. Continue to adjust and work with the doorway opening until the welded metal door frame fits snugly and perfectly within the opening. Mark the locations of the predrilled frame holes on the wood of the doorway. Move the frame away.
Install the universal stud anchors or other included anchors around the doorway, screwing them to the doorway with 3-inch wood screws and lining them up with the markings for the predrilled holes in the metal door frame.
Apply waterproof caulking designed for metal and wood use all along the outside of the welded metal door frame, even underneath it. Slide the frame in place within the doorway and over the anchors and wipe off any excess caulking.
Level the door frame before the caulking dries by holding a 3-foot carpenter's level against each surface of the frame, including the bottom board. Adjust each part of the door frame as necessary to make the installation level by sliding shims between the door frame and the doorway. Hammer the shims in place until the door frame is level. Break off any shims that stick out.
Make holes every 12 inches around the frame and into the doorway if the frame did not come predrilled with installation holes. Use a drill and a metal-specific drill bit to do this. Slide 3-inch wood screws into each predrilled hole, drilling each screw in partway until all have been installed. Tighten all the screws full, driving the head of the screw into the frame so that it does not impede the swinging of the door.
