How to Hang a Wood Sliding Pocket Door

A pocket door takes up less space and you have the option to hide it within a wall when you want it out of the way. This kind of door is not any more difficult to install than a bifold door. Similar to a bifold door, they also work on a track system. Once the track is installed, the top of the door simply connects into the track to allow it to slide in and out of the door frame.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the track with a hacksaw. Cut it to match the exact size of the door.

    • 2

Position the track in the middle of the frame header. Tighten the screws in the pre-drilled holes into the studs.

    • 3

Slide the two trolley hangers -- also called rollers -- into the end of the track.

    • 4

Position the hanger brackets on the top of the door. Center the brackets and place them between about 2 1/2 inches from each end.

    • 5

Slide the hangers until they line up with the position of the hanger brackets.

    • 6

Lift the door. Slide the hanger into the screw opening on the hanger bracket. Adjust the screws at the bottom of the trolley, if necessary. Release the door.
