How to Install a Forever Door

EMCO Enterprises Inc. manufactures Forever doors for The Home Depot and other home improvement stores. The doors feature a thick composite and polycarbonate construction, tempered glass and weather stripping, all of which hold up well to environmental elements. Forever doors install the same way as traditional storm doors.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the hinges on the original storm door. Unscrew the screws on each hinge and set them aside. Your old door should feature at least two hinges: one near the top and one near the bottom. Pull on the door until it comes loose and remove it from the frame.

    • 2

Set a level on the bottom of the door frame. If the floor is not level, try tapping it down with a hammer. Measure one inch from the edge of the flooring and place a dab of caulk in this spot. Place a second dab one inch from the opposite edge. Apply a small line of caulk two inches up each side of the door.

    • 3

Hold the door at an angle to the door frame with the top leaning down. Push the bottom of the door into the frame. Carefully pull up on the top of the door and tilt it toward the frame. Push the door back until it sits inside the frame.

    • 4

Attach the hinges to the door and the door frame. The door should come with two hinges and the necessary screws. Screw two screws through the holes in each hinge. Screw two screws into the door and two into the frame.

    • 5

Place the strike plate on the marked spot on the door that looks like a small rectangle. Screw the plate onto the door. Slide one half of the knob through the hole on the back and the second half of the knob on the front. Push the knob until it locks into place and attach the screws to the front and back pieces.
