Instructions

    • 1

Remove the French doors from the frame using a drill. Position the frame in the concrete block opening and cut out any sections that are too tight using a reciprocating saw with a masonry blade. Continue to trim the doorway as necessary until the French door frame fits perfectly and snugly within the doorway.

    • 2

Remove the door frame. Position a lintel against the lop of the doorway. Use the masonry blade on the reciprocating saw to cut out any necessary grooves or sections for the lintel to fit in place at the top of the doorway. Replace the frame in the doorway to make sure that the lintel is not blocking the frame space.

    • 3

Remove the frame once again, with help from an assistant, and apply caulking around the entire edge of the frame. Slide the frame back into place, keeping as much caulking as possible between the frame and the doorway.

    • 4

Hold the level up to each side of the door frame and adjust the frame to make it straight. Set shims between the frame and the doorway and hammer them in place to make the frame straight. Remove the frame if necessary and widen the doorway with the saw. Use an assistant to help hang the doors back on the frame and test to make sure they open easily.

    • 5

Drill holes through each of the predrilled holes in the frame once the frame is straight, using a hammer drill on the hammer setting. Set 3-inch masonry screws in the holes and tighten them completely to set the frame in place. Open and shut the doors again to make sure everything is plumb.
