How to Dry Out a Moisture Warped Metal Door

A warped metal door inside your home poses many problems, including not fitting inside its frame and latching correctly. If you have a metal door that warps considerably due to excess exposure to moisture, it will require significant work to restore it to its original condition. Before attempting to straighten the door, ensure it's completely dried out to avoid it warping further. Because metal cannot absorb significant amounts of water, the drying-out process is simple.

Open doors and windows in the vicinity of the metal door to allow fresh air to blow through the area and dry the door. If the door is not located in an area with access to fresh air, remove the door by unscrewing it from its hinges or knocking the hinge pins out with a punch and hammer.

Set the door in a location in which it can get ample access to fresh air, such as in your garage or on your deck. Dry the door thoroughly with a microfiber cloth to remove excess moisture.

Aim one or more large box fans at the door and turn the fans to the "High" setting. The air circulation will help to dry the door quickly. If necessary, reposition the door to allow the air from the fans to reach every surface of the door. If the outdoor climate is cold enough than it's not practical to leave the door outside -- leave it inside your home and place a space heater next to it. The space heater's heat will dry out the air and speed up the drying process.
