How to Attach Euro Hinge Doors

Euro hinges are commonly used in contemporary cabinetry because they are easy to adjust and are invisible when the doors are closed. Unlike more old-fashioned hinges, which can only be adjusted by repositioning them in the wood, Euro hinges feature adjustment screws in their structure that allow you to move them laterally, vertically and in and out. Euro hinges can also be easily snapped apart to remove the door from the cabinet without having to unscrew the hinges.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the door face down on a flat surface. Drill a half inch hole using a 35 millimeter Forstner drill bit. Position the center of the hole 4 inches below the upper edge of the door. Consult the literature of the hinge manufacturer to determine the distance of the hole from the side edge of the door; this measurement varies between manufacturers. Be careful not to drill through the front face of the door.

    • 2

Drill another hole that is 4 inches above the bottom edge of the door.

    • 3

Place a Euro hinge into one of the holes so that the plate of the hinge is above the edge of the door. Mark the location of the two smaller holes where the screws will go into the door using a pencil. Remove the hinge from the hole.

    • 4

Drill an 8 millimeter hole into each of the marks that you made in Step 3, being careful not to drill through the front of the door.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for the other hinge.

    • 6

Place the barrels of the two Euro hinges into the 35 millimeter holes and secure them to the backs of the doors by putting screws into the 8 millimeter holes.

    • 7

Position the door in the cabinet frame and mark where the screw holes of the hinge plates are on the cabinet.

    • 8

Snap the plates off of the two hinges by pressing down on the lever in the center of the hinge.

    • 9

Screw the hinge plates onto the cabinet frame, using the pencil marks that you made in Step 7 as a guide.

    • 10

Hold the door up to the cabinet and reassemble the hinges by snapping them back together.
