How to Hide Exposed Wires After Removing a Suspended Ceiling

The channels that make up the framework of a suspended ceiling are supported in the middle of the room by a series of wires that extend from the ceiling joists down to the channels. When you remove the suspended ceiling, these wires will be left hanging out of the old ceiling that is above the removed suspended ceiling. With a bit of effort and drywall spackle, you can put these wires out of sight and out of mind.

Instructions

    • 1

Push the wires up through the holes in the drywall. To support the suspended ceiling, the wires are attached to screws or nails in the ceiling joists above the original ceiling. When you push them up through the drywall, they will remain attached to the joists in the attic.

    • 2

Cover the holes that are left where the wires were with small dabs of drywall spackle, applied with a drywall knife. Allow it to dry for 24 hours.

    • 3

Sand the spots of spackle smooth with 180-grit sandpaper.
