How to Cut Drywall to the Shape of a Cathedral Ceiling

A cathedral ceiling is a high ceiling that reaches a peak in the center of the roof line. The space provided by the ceiling can make a room feel more open and expansive. You can finish the ceiling by installing drywall onto the ceiling rafters. One benefit to using drywall is that it's fairly easy to cut the drywall to fit your needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area that needs to be covered with drywall. If the ceiling is oddly shaped, break it down into separate sections.

    • 2

Measure and mark the cut lines onto the drywall.

    • 3

Place a straightedge against the cut line. Create a score line in the drywall with a utility knife.

    • 4

Snap the drywall at the score line, then cut through the paper on the back side with the utility knife.

    • 5

Measure and mark cut lines for any objects such as outlets, ceiling fans or light fixtures onto the drywall.

    • 6

Cut holes in the drywall along the cut line with a keyhole saw.
