New Ceiling Ideas

The ceiling in your home makes up a large percentage of space. However, it can sometimes be neglected as it is not first in your eye-line. But, changing the look and appearance of your ceiling is a quick way to add visual interest to any room. Also, it's a great way to personalize a nursery or a child's bedroom.
  1. Solar System

    • A new ceiling idea for a child or teenager's room is to paint a mural of the solar system on the ceiling. This can be done in myriad ways. One way to do so is to paint the ceiling a dark blue color, the color of the night sky. Either freehand draw or use stencils to create images of the planets and stars on the ceiling. Paint them in bright colors or glow-in-the-dark paint. Alternately, if you don't want to paint them, use wall decals of planets and stars and put them on the ceiling instead.

    Contrast Color

    • Apply a contrasting color to the ceiling. It will completely alter the room. The color should contrast with the paint on the walls. Some paint colors to choose from include tan, blush pink and butter yellow. If you would like a more dramatic look, use a bold color such as tomato red or cobalt blue. If you choose to go this route, apply a glaze in the same color over it to soften the effect so that it is not too dark and overwhelming. It will also make the ceiling appear to be glowing.

    Clouds

    • Personalize a child's bedroom by painting a mural of the sky and clouds on the ceiling. It's relatively easy to do. Paint the ceiling in a light blue color. Use a sea sponge to dab white glaze and sponge clouds onto the ceiling with a soft pressing motion. To personalize it even more, paint a sun in the corner of the ceiling using yellow paint.
