Instead of a globe light for your light fixture on your basement ceiling, install recessed light fixtures. Recessed light fixtures "indent" in the ceiling and remodel the look and feel of your basement ceiling. Some basements lack ample head room when large light fixtures are installed, and installing recessed lighting corrects this problem.
If your basement could use more air circulation, add a ceiling fan. But before you take on this project, verify that there's ample head room for your family when walking in the basement. Measure the height of the ceiling to make sure its tall enough that you or a family member won't accidentally "walk into" the ceiling fan
Create a design on your basement ceiling with decorative ceiling tiles. Ceiling tiles come in a variety of materials, colors and styles including copper, tin and painted designs. Decide if you want to create a "trim" around your basement ceiling or if you want to install your decorative ceiling tiles on the entire ceiling.
Create a weekend project by installing wallpaper on your basement ceiling. Select your wallpaper in a pattern to complement the overall look and feel of the basement--for example, if your basements colors are rose, green and ivory, select a wallpaper to emphasize those colors. You may wish to have a helper when creating your wallpapered ceiling.
Painting your basement ceiling allows you to change the look and feel of the basement. If you watch movies in your basement, consider painting the ceiling a dark color to help create the feeling of being in a movie theater. Or just paint your ceiling in a color that accents the rest of your decor.
You don't have to paint your entire basement ceiling to create a new look and feel to the room. Try just painting your basement ceiling molding. Paint the basement ceiling molding in a color to complement the other colors in the basement.
