Installation Instructions for the ODL Skylight

The ODL Skylight is a small cylindrical skylight that can be installed in any room of your home or building to give you extra natural light without destroying your roof or installing extra panes of glass. This skylight connects an opening in your ceiling to an opening in your roof while keeping your room insulated. You will need a few tools and some carpentry know-how to install this item, but the process will not take long to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a stud finder to find a spot on your ceiling where there are no cross boards to interfere with the installation. Use a hammer to drive a nail through this spot and then take a coat hanger and push it through the hole to locate it later.

    • 2

Go to the attic and find the coat hanger. Center the hanger between the floor boards. Directly above the location of the hanger, drive a nail through the roof and the shingles above it to indicate where the skylight will be installed.

    • 3

Find the nail on the roof and using it as the center, trace a circle using the circle template included with the skylight. Once the line is drawn, use a saw to cut a hole in the roof. Cut off any protruding shingles and remote any lose nails. Apply roof sealant to the flushing and place the flushing unit over the hole.

    • 4

Slide the top part of the tube unit into the hole. When it is in place, secure the flushing to the roof using the provided screws and washers. Attach the dome to the flushing using the provided screws and washers. Alight the "N" symbol printed on the dome to the north.

    • 5

Return to the room where the skylight will be installed. Use the same method as on the roof to cut a hole in the ceiling where the coat hanger is located. Remove the hanger and secure the trim ring in place with the provided screws.

    • 6

Go back to the attic and attach the adjustable bottom part of the tube to the inside of the trim ring. Slide the bottom part of the tube over the top part and use the foil tape to seal the tubes together.
