How to Paint a Texured Ceiling

Painting a ceiling can be a difficult task for many homeowners. When you are painting a ceiling, you are more likely to drip paint on your flooring and furniture. You are also more likely to get paint in your eyes. Painting a textured ceiling presents a unique set of challenges because you also have to worry about getting enough paint on the ceiling to reach into the textured surface of the ceiling. Using the proper paint roller will ensure that the paint coverage on your ceiling is adequate.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay drop cloths on the floor and furniture beneath the ceiling. Large drops of paint can easily fall during the painting process and damage home furnishings.

    • 2

Put on safety glasses. The safety glasses will keep paint flecks from falling into your eyes as you paint. This is more likely to happen when painting a ceiling. You will also want to wear a hat. The hat will keep paint from falling into your hair.

Dump a small amount of latex paint into the paint tray. Push a high nap or looped roller on the paint roller. Coat the roller with latex paint.

    • 4

Apply the paint to the ceiling. Run the roller over the textured ceiling in a “W” pattern. Use this technique to coat the entire ceiling with paint. Let the paint dry. Repeat as necessary.

Apply paint to the corners and edges of the ceiling with a paintbrush.
