Suspended Ceiling

To install a suspended ceiling, you need to anchor the tile grid to the existing ceiling using strong wire. After the grid is in place, it is a matter of putting the tiles in place.

Paint

• Drywall ceilings do not need to be removed to be renovated. Prior to resurfacing a drywall ceiling, repair any cracks and any areas that have deteriorated from moisture. Painting a ceiling is one of the simplest ways to give a new look to your existing ceiling. If your existing ceiling is textured, you must scrape off the existing texturing material to create a clean surface to paint. Have the existing texture material tested for asbestos by a certified contractor. If there is asbestos in your ceiling texture, have it removed by professionals before moving forward with your project.

• If your current drywall ceiling is not textured, applying a texture can renovate it. The two common ceiling textures are stucco and popcorn texture. They come in a variety of colors, or you can use a basic white texture and paint it any color.

Wallpaper

• Wallpaper can be used as a ceiling renovation material that would give your ceiling a distinctive look. Use wallpaper samples to get an idea of the kind of wallpaper pattern you want on your ceiling. You can create a framed-picture effect by putting ceiling molding around your wallpapered ceiling as the finishing touch.
