Remove any existing carpet. Remove all glue residue or debris using a floor scraper. Use a shop vacuum to clean away all other residue.
Measure the dimensions of the floor that you would like to cover with indoor/outdoor carpet. Multiply the length and width to determine the square footage of carpet you will need to completely cover the floor space. Add an additional 5 to15 percent to give yourself some leeway for error and to ensure you have enough.
Purchase enough carpet to complete the task.
Cut the carpet to the necessary dimensions, using a utility knife.
Apply indoor/outdoor carpet adhesive to 1/3 to 1/4 of the floor space, starting at one wall. Use a notched trowel to apply the carpet adhesive.
Unroll the indoor/outdoor carpet over the area where you spread adhesive with the help of an assistant. Apply the carpet slowly. For best results, use a roller to make sure that the carpet is sticking to the indoor/outdoor adhesive.
Apply indoor/outdoor carpet adhesive to an additional 1/3 to 1/4 of the floor space. Roll out the carpet to cover the adhesive.
Repeat step 6 until the carpet is spread across the entire floor space.
Allow the adhesive to completely dry, following the manufacturer's instructions, before walking on the carpet.
