How to Glue Foam on a Carpet Floor

Found in most households, carpeting provides a soft, warm covering for the floor. The quality of a carpet is only as good as the quality of the foam padding beneath it. Foam padding should be glued in place if you are installing carpeting onto a cement floor, an incline or area with unusually high traffic. Special adhesives for foam padding will hold it in place securely for years.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep and mop the floor to remove any dirt and other contaminants.

    • 2

Roll out the foam padding over the entire floor, the waffle side facing up. Trim the foam as needed to fit properly. Fill the entire room, leaving no empty space between the foam and the wall.

    • 3

Roll back approximately half of the foam padding on one side of the room.

    • 4

Open the windows for ventilation, then apply padding adhesive to the floor, using the brush or paint roller. If you don't have windows in the room, use low-VOC (volatile organic compound) adhesive.

    • 5

Unroll the foam padding, pressing it into the adhesive. You have adhered half of the padding.

    • 6

Roll out the other side of the foam padding and apply adhesive to the other side of the floor.

    • 7

Unroll the foam padding and press it into the adhesive.

    • 8

Allow the adhesive to dry for the amount of time recommended on the container.
