Floor tiles work well when laid on concrete bases. If you are pouring new concrete before laying your carpet tile, you must let the concrete cure for at least 90 days. Always seal your concrete before laying your carpet; the sealing keeps the moisture away from the carpet tiles. Always sweep and vacuum the floor before laying down the tiles.
Find the center of the room you are carpeting. One of the simplest ways to do this is to find the center of two adjacent walls; use a chalk line to cross the room. Where the two chalk lines cross is the center of the room. Begin laying the tiles in the center, and work your way to the walls. Simply peel the sticker paper off the back of the carpet tiles before laying them on the floor. If you are only laying a small section, such as an entryway, start at the corner and work your way out to where you want the carpet tiles to end.
Using carpet tile is a cheap way to install carpeting in your home. Carpet tiles do not require padding underneath, so most do-it-yourselfers can install the tiles themselves. The tiles work well in rooms or areas where there is a lot of traffic. If something gets spilled on a carpet tile, simply pull it up and wash it. If it is beyond cleaning, simply purchase another tile and lay it down.
Tiles can be placed indoors, or purchase specially-made outdoor tiles, which are ideal for covering the concrete on a porch or around a pool. The outdoor carpet tiles are made to withstand moisture. Choose colors that you love for both the indoor or outdoor carpet; if you can't choose just one color, use two or three. Make a pattern with the colors to add more visual interest under your feet.
