How to Carpet Doorways

Carpeting the largest part of the room is relatively hassle-free, but getting around the edges and carpeting oddly shaped areas pose a greater challenge. While tack strips hold down the carpet around the perimeter of the room, you might be wondering how to keep the carpet secured to the floor in the doorway. Don't sell yourself short or think that you can't complete the project yourself. With a little manipulation and materials from the hardware store, your doorway will be carpeted in minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the carpet from one room down, stretching the excess into the doorway. Do the same for the other room until the two separate pieces meet in the doorway.

    • 2

Cut the excess carpet with a utility knife, leaving no space between the two rooms and aligning the two edges as seamlessly as possible.

    • 3

Lift the carpet and lay a strip of seaming tape between the two pieces with the adhesive side facing up. Heat the strip with a seam iron.

    • 4

Lay the carpet back down quickly, and ensure that the two pieces are tightly butted together on top of the seam tape.

    • 5

Roll over the connecting edges with a rolling pin to ensure they are adequately pressed down.
