Pull the carpet up to the where the transition will be between floor coverings. Add one extra inch to the length going into the hard flooring.

    • 2

Cut the pad underneath the carpet back to where the Z strip will be starting, using a utility knife.

    • 3

Hammer the Z strip onto the floor by placing the tack bar on top of the edge of the Z strip and hammering.

    • 4

Fold the carpet over on the edge of the Z strip, and use your knee kicker by placing the teeth side down on the carpet and kick with your knee on the padded part of the knee kicker. Stretch the carpet to the Z strip. Now bring the carpet into the Z strip lip, where you see built-in metal gripper teeth.

Hammer down the Z Strip flange to grip the carpet to the built-in teeth.
