How to Get Carpet Glue Off of a Concrete Porch

Many homeowners cover the floors of porches and other outdoor structures with artificial turf to help prevent slipping or to cover stained, damaged concrete. Over time, the artificial turf tears and disintegrates, making removal necessary. Homeowners often decide not to replace the artificial turf and instead seal and stain the concrete flooring for an updated look. Removing artificial turf is as easy as picking up an end and pulling, but removing the carpet glue from the concrete requires considerably more effort.

Instructions

    • 1

Sweep the porch to remove dust, dirt and loose glue particles.

    • 2

Mop the porch with hot water to help loosen the glue.

    • 3

Use a scraper to remove as much of the glue as you can lift without damaging the concrete.

    • 4

Apply a commercial chemical adhesive remover to the remaining glue spots. Let the adhesive remover sit for the time specified by the adhesive remover manufacturer, then scrape the glue from the concrete.

    • 5

Sand any remaining spots of glue with a medium-grit sandpaper.

    • 6

Pour 1/2 cup dishwashing liquid into a gallon bucket. Fill the remainder of the bucket with cool water.

    • 7

Mop the porch with the dishwashing liquid and rinse it with cool water. Make sure you remove all adhesive remover and soap from the concrete.
