Choose your carpet style. There are many different carpet styles to choose from for concrete floors. Decide what the room is to be used for. A bedroom normally has a more plush carpet, where an outdoor living space needs to have an indoor outdoor carpet that can handle getting wet.

Pick the color of the carpet. There are many colors to choose from when choosing carpet for your concrete floor. A light-colored carpet will make a room look bright, but will also show stains and dirt very easily. A dark-colored carpet will not show dirt or stains readily, but may make the room seem smaller. You can mix colors in the same room, but keep in mind that seams will be visible where the color changes.

Review the quality of the carpet available. The main aspects of carpet quality involve carpet density, pile height and twist. Denser carpet and one with a high pile above the backing will allow your carpet to last longer and feel softer on your feet. Carpet twist refers to how many times a carpet's fiber has been spun before being heat set. The more revolutions the twist has, the higher the grade of the carpet.

Select the pad for your carpet. This is a very crucial part of your purchase. The pad is underneath your carpet, and cushions the force of your feet on your concrete floor. You need to use the manufacturer's recommended pad for your carpet selection. Concrete floors are porous and can absorb moisture in the case of spills. There are moisture barrier pads available that will not allow spills to pass through.
