Clean the concrete surface thoroughly. Sweep away any dirt and debris using a broom, and then wash the surface using a pH neutral concrete cleanser. For ingrained dirt and stains, use a stiff bristled brush. Rinse the surface of the concrete with clean water and allow it to dry.
Adjust the temperature for the room so that it is between 65 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit, with relative humidity between 10 and 65 percent. Place the cushion in the room for 48 hours prior to installation to acclimatize it to the room. The concrete surface itself should be no colder than 65 degrees Fahrenheit before installing.
Install the tack strips to the concrete floor. Nail the strips to the perimeter of the floor using masonry nails, skipping strip placement at the doors. The strips should be installed about one-quarter inch from the walls, with the pins in the strips pointed towards the walls.
Cut the carpet cushions so that they completely cover the concrete surface between the tack strips. Lay the cushions onto the surface of the floor, with sides butted together, placed perpendicular to how you intend to lay the carpet itself.
Apply a layer of the glue to the concrete running the glue right up to the tack strips using a notched trowel. Press the cushions firmly onto the concrete surface, working from the center of the edges to the seams. If necessary, trim the seams so that they fit tightly together to remove wrinkles in the cushion.
Tape the seams of the cushion to prevent them from shifting beneath the carpet once installed.
