Home Carpet Dye Instructions

When you get in the mood to redecorate, you might want to change your carpet color, but your budget cannot withstand the strain of recarpeting the whole house. The next best option is to dye the carpet. You don't need a professional for this unless you are uncomfortable with the notion of dyeing the carpet. Carpet dye kits help with the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all of the furniture from the room. Store it somewhere out of the way; it will take a few days to complete the process.

    • 2

Vacuum the room thoroughly. This removes all the dirt and debris from the floor so that you can shampoo the carpet.

    • 3

Shampoo the carpet with the carpet-cleaning machine.

    • 4

Mask the baseboards and about 6 inches up the wall around the carpeted areas, using masking tape. This will prevent dye from staining the walls and having to repaint them.

    • 5

Mix the dye in a spray bottle, following the dye kit's instructions on the mixing ratios. Start in one corner of the room and spray an area about 1 square foot. Use the scrub brush to rub the dye into the carpet fibers for even distribution. Continue until you have left the room. Do not step on the carpet for at least 24 hours.

    • 6

Return all the furniture and continue on to the next room if desired.
