How to Roll the Edge of a Carpet

Putting in a new carpet on your own can be a very satisfying do-it-yourself project, not to mention it can save you a lot of money. The keys to doing a carpet installation the right way are having the right tools and making sure you are familiar with the proper techniques for getting the carpet down. One of the last things you will need to do is roll the edge of your new carpet, ending up with it flush against the wall.

Things You'll Need

  • Utility knife
  • Seam adhesive
  • 50-lb. carpet roller
  • Scissors
  • Binder strip

Instructions

      Trim the edge of the carpet with a utility knife, leaving about 1/2 inch extra against the wall. Cut off any excess yarn with a pair of scissors.

      Apply seam adhesive to the extra 1/2 inch of carpet. Fold this section underneath the edge of the carpet and press it down so it's flush with the wall.

      Run over the carpet edge with a carpet roller. Walk along the edge of the carpet to make sure it is flat and the adhesive sticks properly.

      Apply a binder strip to a threshold such as a doorway so the carpet doesn't stick up.
