How to Remove Furniture Imprints From Carpets

A common problem with carpet in a home is the indentations left by furniture. Carpets with high pile will typically have more indentations left by furniture. While most of these indents will go away naturally, you may need to take a few measures to correct this problem. Depending on your carpet type and location of the indentations, you can use any of a few different methods for correcting them.

  • Ice cubes

      Pick at the area with a fork. This will help the fibers stand up and regain their natural form.

      Place an ice cube in the indentation and leave it there overnight. In the morning, the fibers should be standing up slightly. Pick at them with a fork to correct the problem.

      Steam the indentation carefully with a steam iron. Do not place the iron directly on the carpet as this can melt the carpet fibers and worsen the problem.
