Installing carpet will inevitably result in seams somewhere in a room or hallway. Even for professional installers, sealing carpet seams is a tough project. With the proper tools, however, you can have a fighting chance to seal seams and create a professional look for your carpet. You will most likely need to rent a steaming iron from a local hardware store for sealing carpet seams. This will reduce the amount of work needed to complete this project properly.

1
Stretch with a power stretcher parallel to the carpet seam. This helps reduce peaking carpet seams.
-
2
Place carpet seam tape under the carpet seam. One half of each side of the tape should be under each side of the seam.

3
Line up the carpet seams for a tight fit. Heat the carpet seam tape with the seaming iron. Slowly move the iron across the seam to fully connect the seam.
-
4
Avoid stretching or walking on the carpet seam for a few hours. This helps the carpet seam tape set and allows the glue to solidify.
