Trim the carpet edges with a knife or scissors to ensure a tight fit.
Cut a piece of seaming tape to match the size of the seam. Place the tape beneath the carpet seam, with half of the tape on each side of the seam.
Plug in the seaming iron. Place the heated iron over the carpet seam. Slowly move the iron along the seam to activate the glue in the tape and connect the carpet.
Place a heavy object, such as a dresser or bookcase, over the carpet seam. This helps to ensure that the seaming tape and carpet will adhere well.
