How do I Install a Lexfloor Soundproof Underlayment?

Lexfloor soundproof underlayment is a polyfoam, 2 millimeter moisture barrier that comes in a 100-square-foot roll. It is installed under laminate and wood floors for added protection and is commonly found in basements and other low-traffic areas of the house. This underlayment has a polyethylene film that acts as a vapor barrier on concrete slabs. Installation of the underlayment is simple and is one of the first steps toward installing a new laminate floor.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the area where the underlayment will be installed to make sure there is no dirt and debris in the way. Sweep up any mess with a broom and dust pan.

    • 2

Measure the length and width of the area and multiply them together to get the total square footage. Divide that number by 100 to get the number of rolls of underlayment necessary for installation.

    • 3

Line up the roll of underlayment at the top left hand corner of the floor. Begin rolling the underlayment out with the logo-imprinted side facing up over the desired area. Push down firmly as you go to secure it to the floor. Continue until you are 1/2 inch from the first wall. Cut the underlayment with a utility knife.

    • 4

Set the second row underneath the first and butt it up to the bottom. Roll it out the same way and cut it to size with a utility knife. Tape the seam with a water- and tear-resistant tape. Repeat the process until the entire area has been covered with the underlayment.
