How to Determine the Face Weight of a Carpet

Many different factors go into determining the overall quality and durability of a carpet. One of these is face weight. The face weight is the weight of the carpet pile per square yard. A quality number for the face weight of carpet will depend upon the material the carpet is made out of, such as olefin, wool or nylon. However, in general, carpets have a face weight between 40 and 63 oz., with the higher number expressing higher quality.
