How to Make Dishwasher Insulation From Newspaper

Dishwashers have insulation on the outer insides of the machine, which are the areas that you don't see unless you do repairs on the appliance. The insulation traps heat inside the dishwasher, which makes it run more efficiently. If the insulation breaks down, you might notice the appliance making more noise. Replacing the damaged insulation with insulation made from newspaper is a cost-effective way of reducing any rattling from the dishwasher.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for two small screws on the front of the dishwasher. Remove those screws with a screwdriver. The screws hold the panel on the dishwasher. Wiggle the front panel until it pulls away from the appliance.

    • 2

Peel off the old insulation from the dishwasher. The old insulation features a fiberglass construction and might be in several pieces. Discard the old insulation.

    • 3

Find the smaller panel at the bottom of the door. Remove the screws in this panel and set to one side before pulling off this panel. Once you remove the screws, the panel should slip right off.

    • 4

Remove the insulation from inside this area of the dishwasher. The insulation should have the same color and consistency as the insulation inside the other area of the dishwasher.

    • 5

Fill the smaller area with crumbled newspaper. Crumple the newspaper into tight balls and wedge them into the crevice. Keep packing the newspaper until the space cannot hold anymore. Set the small panel over the opening and tighten the original screws into the appliance.

Use more newspaper inside the larger panel. Completely fill the area inside the door panel with packed newspaper. Pack the newspaper tightly rather than loosely. Attach the door panel to the dishwasher with the original screws and use the dishwasher as directed.
