How to Install Flex Used Window Wrap

Installing a window directly into the precut and wrapped hole isn’t enough to create an air-tight, water-resistant finish. This is where flex window wrap comes into play. The wrap is applied before the window is installed to help trap heat inside, prevent drafts and stop potential water damage. This flashing is available a variety of sizes and shapes that fit almost any budget and window dimensions. Prep the area before applying the flex window wrap to ensure it adheres effectively.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the surface you are attaching the flex wrap to. Remove any loose or remaining silicone caulk with a plastic scraper. Dampen a rag with denatured alcohol and wipe down the house wrap to remove any dirt, grime or other debris.

    • 2

Measure the exterior window’s dimensions and add 2 inches to ensure the product overlaps at the corners. Cut the flex wrap according to these measurements with a utility knife.

    • 3

Apply a thin layer of spray adhesive to the bottom of the window opening and center the flex tape, paying attention that there is 1 inch of remaining product on each side of the opening. Apply the flex tape to the bottom portion of the window frame. Cut a slit into each remaining 1-inch section of overlap and apply it up the sides of the opening.

    • 4

Repeat the process on the remaining three sides of the window, once again centering the tape and cutting slits into the product to allow for the corners.

    • 5

Secure the corners of the flex tape with staples to ensure the product doesn’t curl.
