How to Install a Janus 650 Door

The Janus 650 roll-up door is a solution for sheds and mini storage units. The design makes it simple to install, provided the opening is prepared ahead of time. Check that your jambs are plumb and your header and floor are level. Unlike some overhead doors, the Janus 650 also requires clearance for the roll-up door. Because of the weight of the door and tension on the mechanism, it is best to have a helper when installing the Janus 650.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all the parts from the box on the inside of the structure where you intend to install the door. Lay the left guide perpendicular to the left door jamb and repeat for the right. Locate the rolled-up door at the top of these pieces, parallel to the door opening, with the bottom bar touching the floor and facing the opening.

    • 2

Bring the left arm of the roll-up door into an upright position and push the guide's slots over the bracket's tabs. Push the tabs into the slots by hammering the outer side of the arm if necessary. Repeat for the right side. Check that the locking tabs have fully engaged before proceeding.

    • 3

Lift the door into place by first pushing the guides against the door jambs and then lifting by the roll-up door until the system is flush against the jambs and door header. Flush the left guide to the left jamb. Choose fasteners from the enclosed pack based on the jamb material as outlined in the installation guide. Attach the door to the left side of the header using two fasteners per bracket. Work down the door jamb installing fasteners at every pre-cut round opening.

    • 4

Measure from the outside edge of the left guide to the outside edge of the right to ensure that the guides are approximately 3 inches wider than the clear opening. Ensure that the outside edge of the right side is 3/4 to 1 inch wider than the door curtain. Shim the door guide if there is too much space or adjust the left side guide if there is not enough. Secure the right side of the door and guide as outlined in Step 3.

    • 5

Set the door's initial tension by turning it 1 1/2 to 2 revolutions, so that the bottom bar goes through the guides. Hold the door tightly by the bottom bar while cutting through the wrapping materials. Thread the bottom bar through the guides and lower the door. Push the head stops through the top of each guide so that the longest part of the stop is between the guides. Secure with the provided 3/4-inch hex screws.

    • 6

Open the door about one-third of the way. Install the stop clips on either side of the door, parallel to the bottom bar using the enclosed carriage bolts. Install the handle in the center of the door along the bottom bar, using the enclosed hardware. Tie a knot in the end of the rope and push it through the hole that is at the right of center so that the knot faces up. Bring the rope up through the hole that is left of center and tie a knot in the end. Tie a knot in the middle of the slack.

Check the door's tension by raising and lowering it a few times. Increase spring tension on a door that is difficult to open by placing the enclosed winding bar into the tensioner ratchet wheel and rotating downward until you hear a click. Decrease spring tension on a door that is difficult to close by inserting the winding bar into the tensioner, holding the catch-flange open and rotating upward. Test the door as you adjust it to ensure proper tension.
