How to Glue Granite With PL Premium

Securely bond granite to any surface using PL Premium. This construction adhesive often is used to adhere granite slabs to bathroom vanities, kitchen cabinets, table frames, exterior stairs, shower curbs and other areas in and around the home. PL Premium is a polyurethane-based adhesive that holds the granite securely within 20 minutes of application for a fast, durable bond. Create a tight seal for the granite, no matter what it is you are attaching it to.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the temperature in the area you are installing the granite in is above 40 degrees Fahrenheit and free of frost.

    • 2

Lift the granite onto the surface you plan to install it on to test its fit and double-check its position. Place a level on top and shim it if needed until it reaches level. Mark its position with a pencil so you can re-create the right fit later. Remove the granite and store it vertically nearby.

    • 3

Sweep or brush the surface on which the granite will be installed. Remove any loose dust or debris from the surface. Brush the underside of the granite as well to remove any loose stone dust.

    • 4

Remove any grease, mud, surface stains or standing water from the surface where the granite will be installed. Use a damp mop and pH-neutral cleaner to get the surface as clean and free of contaminates as possible.

    • 5

Wipe down the underside of the granite with a soft cloth and pH-neutral cleaner to remove any surface contaminates. Allow both the granite and the surface to which you are attaching it to dry completely.

    • 6

Don work gloves. Cut the tip off the tube of PL Premium with a utility knife. Make the cut at a slight angle, rather than straight across. Try to size the cut to the size of the bead required for the granite's installation; the farther up the tube's tip you cut, the larger the bead is.

    • 7

Insert the tube into the caulk gun. Pull the plunger on the gun back as far as it goes, and insert the tip of the tube through the holder in the front of the gun. Push the back of the tube up against the top of the gun, then pull the trigger until the plunger reaches the back of the tube. Pull the trigger one or two more times to prime the tube and get the adhesive flowing.

    • 8

Hold the tip of the adhesive tube just above the surface the granite will be installed on. Pull the trigger slowly and steadily on the gun to release a bead of adhesive. Pull the gun along the surface as you squeeze. Run the bead along the edge of vanity, cabinet and curb installations; run the bead in a serpentine pattern for installations with larger surface areas to cover.

    • 9

Lift the granite with a helper, vertically, to carry it to the installation site. Turn the granite horizontal above the surface you will install it on, and carefully lower it into place. Do not disturb the area for a minimum of 20 minutes. The granite is permanently adhered after 24 hours.
