Allergy-Safe, Anti-Mold & Dust Mite Laminate Floor Padding

For those with asthma and allergies, comfortable laminate flooring has been a non-existent home feature until recently. The reason is that no matter how clean a floor, the floor pad under the laminate absorbs mold, bacteria and microbes upon coming into contact with moisture. Thankfully, manufacturers now have hypoallergenic floor pads.
  1. Hypoallergenic

    • The term hypoallergenic does not mean allergy-free, but rather allergy reducing. The primary way that this is achieved is through adding a moisture resistant property to the padding. In order to achieve this, allergy-safe pads are made of completely non-organic materials. This means that the pad cannot grow mold or bacteria.

    Anti-Mold

    • There’s nothing worse for allergies and asthma sufferers than mold. No matter the type, mold spores will spread through the air from any friendly surface and exacerbate allergy attacks. By creating the pad out of a material that prevents mold growth, an asthma sufferer can use the pad and not worry about making their symptoms worse.

    Non-decomposing

    • Another feature of allergy-safe floor pads is the inert properties of the chemicals used. In the world of chemicals, most are relatively unstable, which means that over time, the chemicals will break down and release gases into the air. These chemical gasses can create a huge problem for allergy sufferers. Instead, allergy-safe floor pads use inert chemicals. This means that the chemicals will never break down and release fumes.

    Waterproof

    • Among the best features of allergy-safe floor pads is the waterproof properties. The fastest way to ruin a laminate floor is to use a non-waterproof pad or no under-pad at all. The reason is that concrete foundations are not inherently waterproof. In fact, concrete can actually transfer moisture up into the flooring, causing warping. An allergy-safe pad typically contains a waterproof barrier that protects your laminate.
