Imitation granite panels use polyurethane technology to mold and dye the perfect faux panels. Each panel looks like granite but only weighs 5 pounds, making installation simple for any DIY homeowner. Most panels can be used inside or outside.
Imitation granite panels require no mortar for installation. Instead, these panels use special glue to hold them in place, and then they are simply screwed into the wall’s studs. The screw holes are filled with caulk and covered with special panel paint.
The preparation for this job is simple: Clean the wall and mark the studs. The wall must be completely clean of dirt and grime for the glue to stick. Most manufacturers recommend scrubbing the wall with mild soap and water. Once the wall is dry, use a stud finder to locate all the studs and a level to mark a straight line across the wall, and then you are ready to hang the panels.
Along with standard dark grey granite, imitation granite panels can be found in brown, off-white and light grey. Each color has granite texture and appearance, making it hard to tell the difference between imitation and real granite. Best of all, the panels feature the look of mortar between the bricks, adding to the realistic look.
