What Is a Pro-Panel II Metal Roof?

Metal roofing makes a durable alternative to traditional asphalt shingles, but not all metal roofing materials are the same. In fact, they come in a variety of different metals, with different safety ratings and different construction. The Pro-Panel II is one such metal roofing material, manufactured by Metal Sales Manufacturing Corp.
  1. The Basics

    • Each sheet of Pro-Panel II provides a 36-inch coverage width, with small trapezoidal ribs separated by 9-inch centers. The ribs themselves maintain the sturdiness of the metal and assist in the flow of moisture when the roofing material becomes saturated. Pro-Panel II sheets consist of acrylic-coated Galvalume, a form of sheet steel combined with an aluminum-zinc alloy. Pro-Panel II roofing also contains an MS Color Fast 45 paint finish.

    Recommended Use

    • Pro-Panel II is not suitable for all homes and buildings. The manufacturer recommends that you install Pro-Panel II panels only on roofs containing a slope of 3:12 of greater. In other words, you can use them safely on most pitched roofs, but you should not use them on flat or lightly sloping roofs. Furthermore, you can install Pro-Panel II over open structural framing or over a solid substrate (the main roof decking or solid foundation).

    Safety

    • Pro-Panel II has a Class 4 Impact Resistance rating, a standard rating for roof coverings. It also has a Class A Fire Resistance Rating, meaning that it offers optimum protection against fire damage. The manufacturer does not recommend cutting panels greater than 45 feet long, but most residential homes should suffice near the minimum size of 5 feet long per panel. If you choose Pro-Panel II, the manufacturer will assist you in determining the best measurements for your home.

    Benefits

    • Like all sturdy metal roofing, Pro-Panel II is highly resistant to fire, rot, mold and decay. It also provides an eco-friendly alternative to traditional asphalt roofing, since metal panels protect home interiors better from extreme heat and cold outside, thereby providing greater energy efficiency. Metal roofing also lasts much longer than asphalt shingles, and Metal Sales Manufacturing Corp. offers extended warranties to consumers.
