How to Troubleshoot a Swingline PowerEase Stapler

The Swingline PowerEase stapler uses a mechanical spring mechanism to reduce the amount of force required to drive in the staples. Pressing down on the top of the PowerEase engages a piece of metal at the front that breaks the staple apart from the rest and drives it into the paper. If the staples are not coming out, or are coming out misshapen, check for a staple jam.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the button on the hinge of the stapler to release the staple tray.

    • 2

Grasp the tray and pull it out. If the stapler is jammed, you may need to use some force.

    • 3

Remove any remaining groups of staples from the tray.

    • 4

Check the front of the staple tray for twisted or misshapen staples.

    • 5

Grab loose staples and pull them out from the top using a pair of needle-nose pliers.

    • 6

Load the remaining staples into the tray. There are grooves on the bottom of the tray. Make sure the ends of the staples slide into the grooves.

    • 7

Close the tray by pushing it back into the top of the stapler.
