How to Heat Treat Aluminum QC-7

Aluminum QC7 is a lightweight malleable metal. Aluminum QC7 is used as a material for cars, bridges, buildings, athletic equipment and airplanes. Heat treating aluminum is a process of making the material more pliable for shaping or increasing electrical conductivity. Heating can be dangerous, so the proper gear such as goggles and protective gloves are required. It is also recommended not to overheat the aluminum, this can be evidenced if it starts to melt.

Instructions

    • 1

Place protective gloves and goggles or a welding mask on.

    • 2

Keep the aluminum QC7 plate in one hand and hold the blow torch in the other. Keep the aluminum QC7 plate about 6 inches from the blow torch and turn the blow torch on.

    • 3

Move the blow torch throughout the aluminum plate quickly in vertical and horizontal lines.

    • 4

Wait for the aluminum QC7 plate to cool and turn it over and repeat Step 3 over any untreated section of the plate. Allow the plate to cool completely before touching with bare hands.
