How to Build With MBCI Metal

Metal Building Components Inc. is a manufacturer of metal roofs and insulated metal siding. Building with this metal is similar to installing any metal roof or siding. You must let MBCI know the type of building you are installing its products on before ordering any material. The MBCI architects will take your building design and fit their products to your requirements. You can perform the installation of MBCI metal roofing by following these steps, but the siding requires additional procedures.

Instructions

    • 1

Roll out the waterproof membrane, similar to installing black paper under shingle roofing. Staple the waterproof membrane in place. Screw the eave trim in place around the edge of the roof. Roll out the tri-bead tape sealer on top of the eave trim.

    • 2

Set the first piece of MBCI metal roofing along one edge of the roof. Ensure the metal roofing overhangs the edge of the roof slightly. Screw the first sheet of metal roofing in place. Ensure the self-tapping screws installed along the edge of the roofing penetrate the tape sealer. Install the screws every 3 feet, from top to bottom.

    • 3

Clip in the next section of metal roofing, similar to installing tongue-and-groove wood siding. Place a screw on each side of the seam. Go back to the first sheet of MCBI metal roofing and install a screw on each side of the crimped or raised panel. Place a screw every 3 feet, moving from bottom to top or top to bottom.

    • 4

Repeat the procedure until the entire roof is covered with MBCI metal roofing. Install the last sheet of roofing and check the overhang. Measure from the outside edge of the sheet and mark with a carpenter's pencil. String a chalk line from top to bottom and mark a colored line. Cut off the excess overhang with a jigsaw, using the chalk line as a guide. Repeat the procedure when installing the other side of the roof.

    • 5

Lay the ridge trim on top of the roof peak and mark the crimp sections with a carpenter's pencil. Mark the edge of the ridge trim on both sides of the peak. Remove the ridge trim from the peak of the roof. Notch out each crimp section with a pair of tin snips, making a "V" shape when cutting the notch.

    • 6

Roll out the tri-bead tape sealer on the inside of the mark, close to the edge of the ridge trim. Lay the ridge trim in place and screw down both sides of the trim. Ensure the self-tapping screws go through the ridge trim and the tri-bead tape sealer.
