How to Cut Angles for a 3-Inch Pipe

Whether you are a hobbyist cutting pipe for a project or a homeowner attempting a do-it-yourself home repair, you can make a clean, angled cut on both 3-inch PVC and 3-inch metal pipes without expensive materials. Many pipe cutting tools are available to help you cut pipes to the proper length, but not all of these tools allow you to cut pipes at an angle. Although a power saw cuts through pipes more quickly, you can complete this task with only a handsaw.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of pipe you need for your project. Mark the angled cut on the outside of the pipe with a permanent marker.

    • 2

Place the pipe into a miter box. Align the angled mark on the pipe up with the appropriate angled slot on the miter box for the cut you want to make.

    • 3

Hold the pipe steady. Cut the pipe with a handsaw or power saw along the angled slot on the miter box.

    • 4

Remove the burrs left inside the pipe with a pocket knife.

    • 5

Sand the freshly cut pipe edges with 80 grit sandpaper.
